Windows 7 Ignores Hosts File

Excluding all the ID10Ts, such as file extension, there are still a long list of suggestions proposed for the Windows 7 Hosts problem:

  1. Unicode polluted Hosts
  2. Delete and create again
  3. In registry Hosts should have higher priority than DNS
  4. De/re-activate IPv4 for your NIC
  5. Single space magic

…and so on. None worked for me. After hours of searching and tweaking, someone hinted me by:

"attrib +R is my saviour."

hmm… permission it is. I then added read-only and set it to be unaccessible by everyone. It magically worked. Thank you Microsoft.
